Junior Fall IB

Wdup amigos, first post here, but been reading the interesting finance articles here for a while :)

Anyways... I'm shooting for a boutique part time for next semester (3rd year fall) to help with SA recruiting. Here are a couple of questions that I haven't found answers to anywhere else:

1. When should I start cold calling boutiques? I would start immediately, however, I read here that boutiques hire on an ad-hoc basis. So . . . :/?
2. My strategy was to just cold call a bunch of boutique analysts/associates (easier to talk to) and ask for a job. Good/bad strat? (Feel like networking for these is pointless because I'm far away and I want the position for fall)
3. Is there anything better that I could be doing (instead of boutique) during fall to get a good IBD SA position?

Thanks

Bump with some background

Some background 1. I'm currently doing CorpFP&A @ a F100 tech company. Really hands on/ Lots to talk about 2. Studying @ Regional target, ~3.5. Starts again late August. 3. Held a finance position for my frat past sem 4. Working a couple hundred miles from where I'll be at school in the fall

What I've actively been doing 1. Reading M&I and forum articles/posts here about recruitment 2. Reading vault ib guide and dealbook daily 3. Checking school job board
