Lateral Advice..
I recently got an offer at a top BB(GS/MS/JPM)'s IB product group for an analyst position. Currently, I'm in middle office (market risk) at a lower tier BB as a first year analyst. I would've taken the offer at a heart beat, but now I have to pay 10k (relocation bonus) back to my current firm since I would be leaving within a year.
The firm I will be moving to stated they won't be paying the money for me, and now I have to forgo the bonus (paid in March) from my current firm and somehow come up with the 10k.
In this case, should I still join the firm regardless, since it still is MO --> FO? Or should I give it another half a year and recruit again in the summer? I just don't think I'll have a chance like this again next year since the job market is pretty hot at the moment..
You 100% take the offer. The dividends this will pay in years to come and the potential opportunities you may have are worth it to lateral now. Yeah, its gonna suck coughing up that money, but you gotta view this in the long run. Opportunity cost of 10k + shitty risk bonus is not even close to the benefits of lateraling.
Thanks for your insight. Appreciate it. Would you still recommend if this position is ECM/DCM (so called zero exit IB)?
Still way better than MO. Take the offer
