Letter of Reference - two liner

Hello all,

I just finished a two months internship in NYC and I am back in Europe. Now I was asking for a letter of reference from my employer but the letters of reference in the US are different than in Europe. As far as I understand they just confirm the fact that you worked there and if anyone has questions you give them a call?!

Their HR department wants to write a two-liner like:

"We hereby confirm that xxx name xxx completed an internship in xxx department xxx of xxx, New York Branch, on the following dates: xxx"

Thats it... So what else should be included in the US version sticking to a "two liner"?

Any examples?

Thanks for your help, highly appreciated!

You don't want a reference letter from HR, you want one from the higher ups you actually worked with. HR will only write a two sentence letter because that is all they know. Contact your boss and any higher ups you worked with that you think would care enough to knock out a quick letter for you. Two lines looks like they either barely know you or don't have anything positive to say about you.
