LevFin at SMBC

Currently a junior at a non-target and have a shot at SMBC within LevFin for SA 2024. Ultimate goal is to get into FT IB at a BB and then PE after 2 years. Will it be doable from SMBC SA to FT BB IB.? I want to do LevFin at a BB as well to solidify my PE chances. Any insight will be appreciated.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, transitioning from a LevFin SA role at SMBC to a FT IB role at a BB is definitely possible, but it will require strategic networking and strong performance during your SA stint.

Here are some steps you might consider:

  1. Excel in your SA role: Make sure you perform exceptionally well in your LevFin role at SMBC. This will give you a solid foundation of skills and experiences that are transferable to a BB.

  2. Network: Start building relationships with professionals at BBs. This could be through alumni, LinkedIn, or networking events. Express your interest in their work and ask for advice on how to transition.

  3. Leverage your experience: When it comes time to interview for FT roles, be sure to highlight the relevant experience you gained during your SA role. This could include deal experience, financial modeling skills, or industry knowledge.

  4. Prepare for interviews: BB interviews can be quite competitive, so make sure you're well-prepared. This includes technical knowledge, behavioral questions, and understanding of the industry.

Remember, the path to PE often involves a stint in IB, but it's not the only route. There are many paths to get where you want to go, so keep an open mind and be flexible. Good luck!
