Coming from outside the UK you are in the international pool where you will be pitted against hordes of European Masters students speaking a desirable 2nd language who have 1 to 2 years of offcycle internship experience at PE/IB (HL/Roth/Laz/continental European banks). It is not happening for American non-targets because US undergrad is structured differently to European programs and you are objectively a much weaker candidate as a result.

Yes but that's the norm among European applicants and they will likely have much stronger internship experience and alumni networks (HEC, Bocconi etc.) than you applying from the U.S. TBH if you are a native Spanish speaker it would be much easier recruiting for the LATAM desks at BBs in NY. These desks are much less pedigree-focused even at the gs/ms level.

No please, don't discourage the kid. We literally have people from Exeter, Manchester and Durham working at the BBs here. Not that these aren't good unis or they aren't good candidates, but they don't come from the traditional "league" unis. I think the UK is more relaxed about prestige than the US is. As opposed to the US where English is the language of all the states, our clients come from all over Europe, hence languages are a BIG plus.
