Marketing a Computer Science degree

hi monkeys,

im a sophomore student at an ivy target studying computer science (not HYP). worked my tail off for a 3.8+ GPA, and I am set on going into banking

i wanted advice on how to best market and position myself as a computer science student. the truth is i did it to hedge against the chance of not being able to get into finance, but that's definitely not the sexiest answer. my resume is purely finance focused.

will not being the classic econ/business major make it more difficult to have a chance?

If anything I think you’ll look better on paper vs traditional biz/econ kids if you have finance experiences and are studying a technical field in school with a good gpa - especially if you recruit for tech banking groups. Very easy to spin why you chose CS in that case & should help you.

However if you decide to recruit for other groups, not sure how you’d spin it if they asked why you’re studying CS / why not just do swe or something (someone more experienced can provide insight here).

currently going through recruiting myself so im not sure if this is accurate but if I was you I would say something along the lines of I was first introduced to banking through tech groups and through xxx finance club or organizations at school i was exposed go a variety of coverage groups that caught me eye, and then do some M&A research about the space to show that you did your DD ab the industry
