Hello. Was recently reffered to an MD. He was very busy at the time, but put me in touch with an ascosiate in his team who met up with me for coffee to explain more about the work, life, etc. Just followed up with the MD to thank him and ask what best way to apply is. He responded, " I will ask around and get back to you in september". Is that a positive or negative response? WHat should I do from here?

It sounds like he's going to ask the associate you met with what he or she thinks about you, look at opportunities, and get back to you in September hah
I would stay in touch (do not be annoying though, maybe email him again mid-September if you don't hear) and stay positive.
