Military to IB - MBA needed?

Huge topic a lot vets face every year.

Pretty familiar with the veteran integration programs that are available.

Is it one of those things I should just get it done early so I don’t have to go back and spend more time getting it later down the line?

Would love honest feedback because this isn’t a massive topic talked about clearly

It really depends.

I did my MBA while active duty (it was partially in-residence but majority online), and I managed to get into IB through one of the vet programs. I’ve seen lots of guys get IB slots with no masters/MBA through the vet programs — but it is a big gamble. There are only a few slots each year. Great opportunity if you can land it though.

However, looking back, it would have been nice to take a 2 year break to do fulltime MBA after the service and develop a stronger civilian network and de-militarize myself. I would only recommend doing fulltime mba though if you have 100% GI bill and get into a top 10 program.

I have also seen veterans each year do fulltime MBAs at good schools but strike out and not land a summer associate IB internship. Or worse, they land the internship but don’t convert it into a fulltime return offer. Just know that nothing is guaranteed but if you prepare yourself and network hard, you should be fine.
