Missed an interview when flight was cancelled
Hello,
Any idea how damaging it is to reschedule an interview due to flight cancellation? Mine was cancelled and I'm forced to reschedule (too far to drive in time, no alternative flights).
Is this a killer? Anyone on the hiring side, can you opine?
Shit happens, and anyone worth working for understands that. Call and/or email whoever you are in contact with, apologize, explain the situation, and then be proactive and give them the next date that would be available on your calendar.
It's not going to be damaging unless they're complete assholes, in which I say you dodged a bullet. All upside for you.
Thanks for your take on my dilemma!
Any company that doesn't understand that flights are cancelled isn't a company you would want to work for anyway. Unless HR is Bannon level stupid, you should be fine.
Are they paying your flight tickets?
Was it a United flight?
Allegedly cancelled* = overbooked United flight
Ha-ha, no not a United flight. I got impacted by Delta's mass cancellations. I see it made the news, but went into a panic thinking the hiring side would be unsympathetic ("if you wanted to get here, you would have found a way...").
Feel sorry for that United passenger.
They do cover the flight, but by reimbursement, so they wouldn't see the cancellation .
Anyways, thanks for all the replies.
No they won't explicitly ding you for it. They know that it's outside of your reasonable control. However, depending on how easy it is to reschedule, you might be in a tougher position if they're running on a short recruitment timeline and need to move quickly.
