If you really want the top MBA I would split time between a finance role and the military or a nonprofit. Schools don't want classes full of only finance guys. The gmat score you need coming from one of those backgrounds if way less than from pure finance.

Just like with clothing, shoes, watches, and other luxury items, the most prestigious things aren't known by the general public. What makes you think MBB/IB is the most selective/exclusive circle? There's a reason why the average person is more impressed by Morgan Stanley than Brevan Howard, just like how you'll get way more envy if you wear a gaudy studded Rolex to the club over an A Lange & Sohne. Getting aroused over prestige is also very dumb.

Well, since you said non-MBB.....then the other consulting firms would qualify. LEK, Deloitte Consulting, etc.
