Moving to a Smaller Competitor

Currently work in structured finance at a credit rating agency (S&P/Moodys/Fitch). What are your thoughts on moving to one of the smaller agencies (DBRS/Kroll/Morningstar), for a salary increase? Would moving to a smaller firm hurt my chances of moving to Asset Management? I get treated very well at my current position, but the promotion track is very slow. It is a strange scenario where i would get paid more at the smaller firm, but would become more junior. Thanks for the help.
