Music Label Investment Analyst

Hi everyone,

I’ve been recruiting hard for IB and finally landed my first offer this week.

Now, I’ve received another offer that seems really interesting. I’d work at a major music label and analyze/pitch potential investments in royalties, catalogue purchases, and record deals. Possibly some M&A as well.

The work sounds pretty interesting to me and I’d have a great WLB. The pay can’t touch IB but the work itself sounds really fun. The team is awesome and laid back. Any thoughts on a role like this? My only concern is getting pigeon holed into the music industry.

I’d pick IB

This is what’s going to happen. If you pick IB - every late night you have or every time your boss pisses you off, you’ll tell yourself you should have done the music role. If you pick music - you’ll feel like shit compared to your peers in IB minting cash and enjoying expensive lifestyles. They might not really be but you’ll definitely feel it. Just do IB, make some money, and when your time is up in finance, move to the music scene. You won’t be pigeonholed in IB. The only hole you’ll be pigeoned to is your MDs asshole.

PS: I myself want to move to the music industry if I ever get comfortable around the shit income since I’m passionate about it. Or at least that’s what I say.
