Need help planning the future

Hi all,

I graduated in May 2024 with a degree in Mathematical-Finance (weird ik) from a smaller school. I played sports in college so in all honesty, I didn't get the absolute best grades(around a 3.2 GPA). This made searching for a job towards the end and after college pretty difficult. A few months after graduation, I was able to land a job at a big car manufacturer's financial services department thinking I would be able to gain some decent entry-level experience in the world of finance. However in reality my position has very little finance or data analytics at all leaving me with less relevant experience than I thought I would have at this point.

Essentially, I want to see if anyone has been through a similar situation and if there are good steps to take to land a good job in finance. In my job search, Ive been very drawn in by the credit analyst position at many banks as it would allow me to use what I was good at in college as well as has a lower requirement that realistically matches my college and professional resume more than say a CFP of CFA

Ive also looked into some company's financial leadership/development programs. I think this would have been a great option for me as Im a recent graduate and there's always more to learn in the world of finance. This could also give me a great understanding as to what role would fit me best. Sadly, around this time of year, most of the rotational programs are full or not accepting applications and if I wait until next year, I will be outside of the prime window to apply.

Do you think it would be best for me to:

1)keep applying for credit analyst positions

2)continue working at my current job until another rotational program opens up and try my best to get accepted, or

3) Keep working at my current company and hope I can work through the ranks to move to corporate and become a financial analyst in maybe 5-10 years time

Thank you for any help!
