Need Opinions On Unoffical "Offer"

I had a superday at a bank for an IB summer internship role and the HR call said they loved me. Only reason they can't bring me on for 2023 summer which the job was listed for is because I'm currently a sophomore. Since they were impressed by me they said when they start recruiting for 2024 summer in early march they will contact me and stay connected until then. I asked if I had to go through the interview process again and she said no. Is this basically mean I've secured an offer at this bank for 2024 and was that their bank's way of giving me an "unofficial offer" for 2024?

Not too be rude but this means nothing more than “We went with someone else, if you see something else feel free to reapply”

The good news is that you have contacts now and can keep those warm till 2024 cycle. You obviously did well to get into the process and to go through it so keep it up. Just don’t get your hopes up to have a silver platter offer waiting for you in 2024 without further interviewing

If its not written on an email, assume its false.

Imagine you get a call one day from a college junior saying you told him 10 months ago he wouldn’t have to go through the recruiting process… Chances are it won’t go well

Your best bet is to write them an email in the future, mentioning that you interviewed and what not, and hope that gets you a first round. If the bank wants to offer you some special process, let them be the ones bringing the topic up.
