Networking for Associate Position

Hi guys, I'm a corporate lawyer at a v5 firm in NY doing M&A work looking to make the change to IB.

I have a fairly straightforward question: Should I focus my networking efforts on associates, VPs or both? Kind of hard to find much on the internet about networking into an associate role from a non-traditional path. Thank you in advance for the help.
