New to WSO....So Hello guys :)

I'm19 year old economics undergrad in UK...I am interested in working in finance even though I'm still unsure on which field would suit me best, currently I think i'd be best suited to M&A in investment banks--and its what appeals to me the most..anyway please give a brief overview on how useful WSO has been to you and how I can make the best use of this site. Also have you ever met up with anyone you talked to on here for networking purposes or even just for fun?

Thanks Uni.Girl

I assume all girls on the internet are 40 year old men. Furthermore if she was younger than 18, I would assume that she was an FBI agent.

EngBankerI have a feeling the first two replies will be the only useful ones from now on...heh

I think you're missing the point: the guy/girl ratio on this site has got to be 20:1 and the WSO meetups are too. I'd like to see that improve.

trailmix8WSO is as useful as you make it. There are a lot of experienced users on the site that can answer detailed questions that you might have, just don't ask anything you can easily google. Also the fee based services I would recommend as well, used a few and have never been dissapointed.

Thanks for answering my question, there is still hope that this thread wont go to waste x

febreezeuni.girl, see my avatar?

  1. WSO has been extremely useful to me. There are a lot of amazing resources on this site, and as trailmix8 mentioned, it's what you make of it. A common theme here is: "I wish I found out about this site earlier."

  2. You can make best use of this site by knowing where to look i.e. using the search function well. After some time, you'll be able sift through what's good/bad advice, and that'll make your life much easier. Furthermore, you can purchase the WSO guides (these are excellent, btw) which cover a myriad of topics on finance and breaking in.

  3. Yes, this has happened. Contrary to popular belief, posters on this site are actually, for the most part, genuine and friendly people. The anonymity of the internet can sometimes bring out aspects of people you wouldn't normally see haha.

Lastly, try not to take yourself or this site TOO seriously. Just have fun with it. Good luck!

Welcome to WSO! :)

Glad to see another girl on here. Try not to take things seriously on here. Aragorn pretty much covered everything. This forum is quite helpful, use the search function & don't ask stupid questions.

For the most part, people are willing to help on here. I've gotten to know a few people & they've been very helpful.

Good luck!

@Uni.Girl

Don't listen to all these trolls. Look up the user 'Swagon', his job is actually to help people in your situation.

What did you expect coming into WSO full of BSD's and getting an answer and stamping yourself as "I am a girl XOXO". If I could facepalm I would. Lol you asked for it gurlfreennnn.

I watch posts a lot, but truth, its a pretty hilarious place if it doesn't help, It gives you a laugh. But it helps sometimes.

is that an invitaton?

Sure with your mom.

To OP, it helps when you read or if you wanna look stuff up, read other ppls post. It helps.... somehow. In a weird masochistic way I guess.

GutShotthe search function is your best bet, honestly this question is too broad for anyone to address without a lengthy discussion with you regarding your future goals and aspirations. come back with more specific questions, or else try and set up a phone call with someone in the industry who can provide guidance.

Thanks for your polite answer, will take your advice

Dear uni.girl,

I think I might have the perfect opportunity for you in my bank's M&A group. We're always bitching about how we don't have an in-house chef for post-7PM dinners. Your extensive experience in the field (18+ years), and impressive qualifications (woman) make you an ideal candidate.

If interested, please give us a call at (212) 902-1000 and ask for Lloyd. Looking forward to hearing from you.
