Pre-experience masters program vs. Full time lower-tier job
I will be a senior at the University of Miami (FL not OH) in the fall studying mathematical economics, formerly premed. I recently got sucked into actuarial science but have realized I really want to learn about and become an investor. What’s my best path? I have two choices, 1) apply for investment banking or strategy consulting jobs at lower-tier firms (like SunTrust, Harris Williams for banking or Deloitte, Accenture for consulting), or
2) apply to pre-experience masters programs (eg. MS programs at UVA or Notre Dame, MS in Finance at Vanderbilt or MIT), which I could use as a launching pad into better firms and apply for a summer internship after graduating from Miami. I know my best option is going straight for the full-time job, but in case I don’t get one, I want to entertain the second option simultaneously. I really like all that I am learning about and want to continue my education some so the MS is very appealing to me I just didn’t know if it was a bad investment and I could be spending my time in a more efficient manner. Thoughts?
