Reaching out to LinkedIn contacts 1+ year on?

Hi All,

I was curious what everyone’s thoughts were on reaching out to old contacts. I just finished my second year of university and I started networking seriously back in Summer 2022. I had a bunch of calls early on but neglected to follow up with a lot of people.

A year has now passed and I’m still connected with them on LinkedIn and as I am starting to get desperate for a Summer 2024 position, I am thinking of reaching out and asking how things have been. I’m curious if anyone had thoughts on this and how to best approach this, particularly if they work at a firm I want to work for. Any help on what to talk about with them would also be appreciated.

On a similar note, I’ve had people who have accepted my initial LinkedIn connection request but never responded to schedule a call. Would it be worthwhile to follow up with them even if it has been a couple months to a year since they initially accepted my request?

Any advice would be appreciated.
