Regional boutique visa sponsorship

I am a Canadian that recently graduated from a US semi-target. Realized too late that I wanted to do IB hence missed the boat on SA and consequently FT recruiting. Right now I’m working FP&A for a midsized US company, while trying to lateral into a regional boutique. Do these small boutiques (50 headcount) typically consider sponsoring H1B/TN? If not, what would be my best course of action to break into an IB career at this point?

I had college roommates from different countries in similar situations (those this was years ago, not sure how the immigration system works now).

Generally speaking, unless you are going to an Elite Boutique, you are unlikely to get visa sponsorship from a smaller firm (I’m assuming you are aiming for the H1B). Reason being that smaller firms simply do not have the financial resources (nor time) to spend on the paperwork, lawyers, etc. Most if not all will just hire US citizens or Green Card holders.

Bump. Anyone knows any small boutiques (50 headcount) that are willing to / have sponsored in the past? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

OP, your post isn't entirely clear. The more information we get the more we can help.

1) if you are on OPT and working in the US, can you get a STEM extension? Would your degree allow for that?
2) H1b is tricky, unlikely to get that quickly or from anyone really. you can try though. Maybe easier with a Canadian firm in the US?
3) There is the L visa. Ask your firm to move you to Canada and then back (if possible)
4) If the role matches, then try the TN visa.

Do you hold any other citizenships? Do you happen to date an American girl?

Hey man thanks for the reply. I’m posting on the app and for some reason it always cuts my paragraph off after the bracket. But basically to clarify:

  1. Yes I am on opt with my current US employer, and I do have STEM extension available
  1. Given my current situation in this market, I see regional boutiques as my only realistic entry into IB. However I’m just not sure whether they would typically be willing to go through the hassle of visa sponsorships as small firms. Hence the question if it’s even worth the time to recruit/network at all.
  1. Unfortunately do not have any other citizenships. Also just broke up with my canadian gf of 4 years, and really doubtful that I can rizz an American girl into marriage in the near future lol - I do know that some people marry foreigners for money, but not interested in paying that shady bag lol

With three years on OPT it's your job to find a company which sponsors, regardless how. H1b, TN,L, .. who cares as long as you end up in the US. Get out and network, google, do whatever it takes.

All other options are more difficult (marriage,... ) or require a lot of money (investment based).

Focus on companies which are more likely to sponsor or understand your situation. In the worst case try landing a role in Canada and then come back later.
