Reneging Offer Horror Stories?
I'm an MBA at an M7 school and was given an offer by a company that I'm really not that excited about. It's a no-name company that doesn't recruit on campus but someone very high up is an alum. They only gave me a few weeks to accept the offer such that it will be impossible for me to get another offer in such a short amount of time. Right now is an awkward time between OCR and just-in-time recruiting, so I'm not even seeing that many job postings of interest to me.
How bad would it be for me to reneg? It's very unlikely that I'll apply for positions in the same field as this position. I'm not comfortable rejecting the job because I've had terrible luck recruiting. I can get first and second round interviews like a pro but everything stops after the final round, and I'm only getting generic rejection feedback. Any horror stories out there from those who have reneged on offers?

Definitely depends on the situation but it can burn you quite bad. Someone at my school reneged an EB for a PE Summer Analyst position. Rumor has it they didn't give him a return because they found out he reneged from somewhere else.
Regardless of whether or not that's true he was essentially completely fucked for FT recruiting as he was banned from career management services and as a result decided to extend his degree another year to try and get another summer analyst position somewhere else.
So for summer analyst positions at least I would be very careful.
Think the risk generally is bigger for SA positions because as previously mentioned some schools will ban you from OCR in the future.
They won't try to torpedo summer analysts for trying to do what's best for their career, they'll torpedo them for backing out of a commitment because something better came along.
