Returning Full-Time But Academic Situation Changed?

Hey everyone,

Returning to a top BB/EB group after doing my SA stint this past summer. I am currently trying to complete a double major - given the extra credits required, it would mean I have to take an extra semester in Fall of 2022, not May. I discussed this with my group and they offered for me to return in January 2023 instead of starting with the cohort in June 2022. However, recently some courses for the Spring semester got changed around, and after playing with course registration I realized I could actually graduate in May instead if I take the right courses.

However, I have been visualizing the nice perks of starting late (having the whole summer to travel, spend more time with family, etc) and still want to use my January start date. This becomes even nicer now that I have the Fall semester open and free. I am scared that if I update my group on my situation, I would be asked to start in June instead.

Thoughts on how I should handle the situation? Should I just keep quiet about my situation and pretend I am still graduating in December? The problem is that I am relatively tight with the other incoming analysts, it would be hard to hide from them that I am not in school next Fall.

My only concern would be that with a Jan start, you wouldn’t be able to participate in the formal training for incoming fulltimers. Does your bank have an additional training for those starting late? If not, I’d seriously consider starting in June.

It will also affect your recruiting timeline should you choose to do PE, as you would only have 18 months of IB vs. a full 2 years if you were to do on-cycle.

I think due to the comradery of starting on schedule, you should start with everyone else. These bonds you will create will be career long bonds. You don’t want to be the odd man out.

Not a big concern for me tbh. I already go to school with half the class & good friends with them throughout the past few years.
