SA after graduation
Hi everyone,
Is it possible for me to do an IB SA at a Big 5 Canadian bank right after I graduate?
For context, the internship would be in Summer 2024 and I graduate in Dec 2023. If yes, could they also give a return offer to start FT right after the internship?
interested
I graduated recently and have applied to several SA positions. All turned down. But that could also be because I went to ryerson
No, you will be auto-dinged. The application has set grad ranges (Dec 2024 - June 2025 usually) and anyone outside that range is automatically filtered out
Recommend you do a 1 year masters. they may let you start early in January 2025 but not right after the internship
Why do the do that? Is it because they don't want SA's to spend the summer focused on recruiting for FT rather than working?
because SA is intended to fill the next years class, the current years class is already filled...
Can I pm you?
If I take the CFA exam the term following my internship, would this count as being a student?
no lol.. appreciate the craftiness but it's either official undergrad or masters student
Yes, change your graduation date on your resume
This is one of the easiest things for the firm to check, don't do this unless you are actually changing it. Esp if you will already have graduated
You can in EMEA, not in NAM apparently.
Do they cancel the internship if you get the offer?
Huh? I don't know, I'm not familiar with NAM recruiting.
.
It is possible for you to apply for an Investment Banking Summer Analyst (SA) position at a Big 5 Canadian bank immediately after you graduate in December 2023. However, it is worth noting that most IB SA positions are typically aimed at undergraduate students who are in their penultimate year of study.
That being said, some banks may consider candidates who have already graduated, particularly if you have relevant work or internship experience in the finance industry. Your chances of securing an IB SA position will likely depend on your academic qualifications, work experience, and performance during the recruitment process.
If you perform well during your IB SA internship, it is certainly possible that you could receive a return offer to start full-time after graduation. However, there is no guarantee that a bank will offer you a full-time position following your internship, and it ultimately depends on the bank's hiring needs and your performance during the internship.
This answer looks like it was written by chatgpt, but it isn't accurate. The programs are really designed for students, and while there are always exceptions on wall street, at most big banks they won't permit it. They will usually have no problem filling their ranks with students who fit the criteria. Maybe at a very small shop where the job might go unfilled otherwise it could be considered. This applies to programs for front office roles at investment banks and broker dealers. If you're talking about commercial banking or risk or something, then I don't really know anything about those programs. Now on the other hand, there are occasionally internships for co-op students or off season internships, but probably not at the biggest banks. These may be more flexible. You might want to look at something like that.
Thanks for the insight. If on my resume, I had 2024 as my graduation date and I landed the offer but after that, I realized that I will be graduating earlier, will they take back the offer? (For Big 5 Canadian bank)
