SA after graduation

Hi everyone,

Is it possible for me to do an IB SA at a Big 5 Canadian bank right after I graduate?

For context, the internship would be in Summer 2024 and I graduate in Dec 2023. If yes, could they also give a return offer to start FT right after the internship?

It is possible for you to apply for an Investment Banking Summer Analyst (SA) position at a Big 5 Canadian bank immediately after you graduate in December 2023. However, it is worth noting that most IB SA positions are typically aimed at undergraduate students who are in their penultimate year of study.

That being said, some banks may consider candidates who have already graduated, particularly if you have relevant work or internship experience in the finance industry. Your chances of securing an IB SA position will likely depend on your academic qualifications, work experience, and performance during the recruitment process.

If you perform well during your IB SA internship, it is certainly possible that you could receive a return offer to start full-time after graduation. However, there is no guarantee that a bank will offer you a full-time position following your internship, and it ultimately depends on the bank's hiring needs and your performance during the internship.

This answer looks like it was written by chatgpt, but it isn't accurate. The programs are really designed for students, and while there are always exceptions on wall street, at most big banks they won't permit it. They will usually have no problem filling their ranks with students who fit the criteria. Maybe at a very small shop where the job might go unfilled otherwise it could be considered. This applies to programs for front office roles at investment banks and broker dealers. If you're talking about commercial banking or risk or something, then I don't really know anything about those programs. Now on the other hand, there are occasionally internships for co-op students or off season internships, but probably not at the biggest banks. These may be more flexible. You might want to look at something like that.
