Settling vs. Deferring

Hey guys, looking for your opinion on an issue.

Interviewed with BBs, got invited to a couple superdays, no offers though. Got a FT offer from a pretty decent MM bank.

Do I: 1) take the offer and graduate and work there and then try to lateral to a BB? (lose 1-2 years repeating analyst stint) 2) apply to one of these 1yr masters programs so I can try for a SA stint at a BB (lose a year plus $30-50k) 3) defer graduation to december 2010 so I can try for a SA stint at a BB (lose a year plus $15-20k)

I'm thinking long run here, in terms of what platform best positions myself for a top business school and beyond.

thanks for your input.

Depends which MM. Give a range. In any case though it is better to take the job. Top MBA's don't differentiate much from investment banking. Also, you will likely face the same issues and land at the same MM.

Then you will have:

Lost 1 year Lost 30k Be a year behind lateraling to a BB.

Just take piper jaffray.

Take the MM. You'll quickly realize that working around the clock for a paycheck isn't as appealing as it seems. You'll then realize that you're happy you're at the bank you landed at and how silly it would have been to potentially throw it all away for a chance at a BB.

Just take the TWP offer, it's not as solid as Piper Jaffray (top MM) but you'll live. Stop having a hard-on for BBs and get on with life.

Depending on your offer. If it is known in the industry, then take the offer

I don't understand why you should not given that you will be more attractive to other recruiters in 1 year compared to fresh out of school without any experience

Also, why did you interview for a job you weren't interested in? I find it hard to believe you applied, interviewed, likely traveled for interviews, received the offer, and all the while didn't really want the job.
