Skip Sophomore Internship?

fortunate to have offer from BB for 2024 summer but have not gotten any internship for 2023 sophomore summer yet, will not having an internship soph summer hurt for group placement, potential FT recruiting at other firms, or PE on-cycle recruiting, or does it not matter?

Congrats! Same thing happened to me and I just enjoyed my last free summer break. No sophomore internship will matter once the BB internship is on your resume.

Do you have a return offer from the internship where you’ll be working? Is that certain, especially in this economy? Do you know that you’ll like the people with whom you’ll be working? Do you know they’ll like you? Are there ways your work quality could be improved?

All of these questions and a whole myriad of others unanimously point to the same conclusion: get as many opportunities working in financial services as you can. Doesn’t have to be anything in IB even, just work on getting something and learning as much as you can and refining yourself. Being a professional is work, and it takes practice. Hone the skills and sharpen them, and you might be able to increase your likelihood of success in your junior gig and get some extra jingle to boot.

I was in a similar position. I had gotten my 2023 SA when I started my sophomore internship. I'll say it was definitely worth it. Not only did I make a good amount of money that summer and meet amazing people, but they became my backup option for this upcoming summer. I'm SA CS, and they offered me to go back to their firm if CS/UBS decides not to honor internships.
