software eng to finance
Currently 1 yr in as a swe at amazon, realized I don't like it and feel very trapped in my career. I realized in the long term I want the skills to run and operate my own business. How do I make the transition to finance? I can get MBA after 2 yrs and do software IB or something, but are there any other paths available (study CFA -> IB analyst ) ? Is the door to PE absolutely closed now?
From what I read online, financial restructuring is also an area I think I'd be interested in, I took a business law class in undergrad and it was probably one of my favorites. Any thoughts on a JD/MBA in 2 yrs to get into this? At my current TC I could probably pay for close to the entire degree myself with no debt.
Looking for advice mainly on the "hows" not really on the "whys", I understand grass is not always greener but I just don't see myself in my current career long term.
Don’t.
Listen to your feelings. If you don’t like swe then do something else!
I’d suggest recruiting for pre-mba IB analyst roles then do PE and MBA. Most firms let you recruit as a new grad up to 3 years out of college
