So I know this is not the traditional question for this forum, but would anyone recommend any advice into breaking into a software sales job. I went through the process in undergrad (7months out) of networking my way into boutique IB and a consulting job so I am not afraid of grinding a little bit.
The reason I post on this forum is with my background in consulting and mostly finance experience am I attractive to these tech companies as a potential hire? Should I try and take a less satisfying sales job just to gain experience.
Also if anyone has any companies they would recommend that recruit primarily in the DFW/Austin/Nashville/Charlotte areas that would be helpful
For public cos: IBM, Salesforce, Dropbox, Oracle, etc. For private cos: Stripe, plaid, chart mogul, (basically anything enterprise saas).
Software sales is extremely lucrative and also a grind. It's a good starting point and has the potential to exit to growth equity if you're interested in finance. I'd really consider it as it polishes you quickly. From experience, those enterprise cos have offices in your neck of the woods. Do some research tho.
Thank you for the response. I feel like I need a grind because I keep finding myself with a "whats next" situation like I have a desire to keep chasing something, and believe in sales it can always be more clients etc.
Reach out to people in Enterprise development programs and see what they say. Usually, people 3 out of college will help
every organization is looking for rockstar sales people. Worst case, apply for an entry level sales roll and negotiate a comfortable base and bonus. Out perform to give yourself leverage for the next negotiation. Nobody wants to lose a rainmaker.

Yup. SaaS sales are tangential to an analyst role because you're on hounding the phones speaking about software businesses. You already know the metrics and what it takes to run a software business, and have the networking skills. it's really an easy pivot tbh. If you want it, make sure you know a bit about finance, the industry in total, and what interesting companies you'd invest in given the opportunity.
Welcome to the forum, and thanks for sharing your question with us. Breaking into software sales can definitely be challenging, but it sounds like you've already had success networking your way into other jobs, so I'm sure you'll be able to do the same here.
As for whether your background in finance and consulting makes you an attractive candidate for tech companies, I would say absolutely. Many tech companies are looking for salespeople who can communicate effectively with business leaders and understand their needs, so your background in consulting and finance could definitely be a plus.
