Sophomore S&T

I have an offer for BB S&T sophomore SA 2022 at a top bank (GS/MS/JPM). I am still a freshman and not sure exactly what I want to do for a career. I enjoy the markets, but I am not sure if S&T FT is for me. I don't want to limit myself by accepting this offer. I've heard S&T exits are limited. Would I be better suited turning down the offer and then recruiting for IB later in the summer in the fall? I could use the IB SA as a chance to figure out what I want to do.

What holds me back is that I want to be on the buyside. I am most interested by HF and PE. What kinds of opportunities would the S&T internship give me for junior summer?

If you are very confident in being able to land an IB role at a decent place, then do that. But already having an offer at a BB is super impressive even if it's S&T. That brand name will carry you far especially as a sophomore internship and you will def get looks come junior SA recruiting (you've also already got your foot in the door at that BB). You can spin it into your story of why IB and maybe you'll even enjoy S&T enough to pursue it.

Man - it’s always so difficult to know which route to take having had performed the work. I understand your concern here. Luckily, these are what internships are for, to answer these questions. As the person above mentioned, once you’re in good, and have experienced the different roles, your “why” will become stronger whichever way you choose to go.
