Starting an Internship Program at Alma Mater
Graduated in May 2019 then started working as an analyst in CRE in the same town where my school is. I want to return and help the finance club students gain meaningful, during-school internships, something that I had to fight hard to get because of the small size of my town. I know there are many businesses that can and do use interns, but they typically are advertised through word of mouth and are not posted online. My school is also ultra-nontarget (see username), so there is very little OCR.
I want to develop a partnership between my school and local businesses to give internships to our finance club students. My idea is for the school to contribute 1/3 of the student's pay and the business the other 2/3.
- Do you think this idea could even work? Will anyone be on board? School, area businesses?
- Will these small-town internships mean anything for the students? Keep in mind, most of these students will graduate without having any internships. The ones that get one, get ONLY that one.
- Do you have any ideas to pitch this idea to businesses or school? Any ideas to improve it? I just want to help students that are in the same situation that I was in last year.
Cheers.
