Starting an Internship Program at Alma Mater

Graduated in May 2019 then started working as an analyst in CRE in the same town where my school is. I want to return and help the finance club students gain meaningful, during-school internships, something that I had to fight hard to get because of the small size of my town. I know there are many businesses that can and do use interns, but they typically are advertised through word of mouth and are not posted online. My school is also ultra-nontarget (see username), so there is very little OCR.

I want to develop a partnership between my school and local businesses to give internships to our finance club students. My idea is for the school to contribute 1/3 of the student's pay and the business the other 2/3.

  1. Do you think this idea could even work? Will anyone be on board? School, area businesses?
  2. Will these small-town internships mean anything for the students? Keep in mind, most of these students will graduate without having any internships. The ones that get one, get ONLY that one.
  3. Do you have any ideas to pitch this idea to businesses or school? Any ideas to improve it? I just want to help students that are in the same situation that I was in last year.

Cheers.
