Summer Internships for non-Juniors

I am trying to get a summer internship as a sophomore from a semi-target in the midwest. I'm most interested in investment banking and sales and trading, but I understand those are the most difficult to get at this age. Does anyone have any suggestions on firms or fields that typically hire sophomores (thinly veiled diversity programs notwithstanding)?

Umm, I think it's a little too late by now, Barclays, UBS, BAML and MS all have sophomore programs but I think UBS already extended their offers, and Barclays' deadline was in early Dec, and BAML are emailing first round interview by now.

UBS and BAML all have rotational programs which would be pretty good considering you are thinking of two fields

can you afford to work unpaid? if you can, cold calling/emailing/networking will probably will land you something nice by june if you work hard at it. might still work if you can't do unpaid, but it's a little harder

bellameowww, I am not really looking at UBS, Barclays, and BAML, as, and correct me if I'm wrong, their limited summer offers for non-juniors go strictly to students of target schools.

Agree with junior that cold-calling boutiques is your best bet, but something like PWM is fine. Most important thing is to do a ton of networking that summer, and start to build relationships for your junior summer recruiting. If you're a semi-target and start doing a ton of networking a relationship building a year early, it won't matter come recruiting time that you did PWM or whatever. And unless your semi-target is in the middle of nowhere, there's no excuse to not try hard to line up an unpaid internship at a boutique in the fall-you'll have plenty of time to contact people.
