job search has been rough for me but I have an interview coming up with SIG, in ops. I know its ops but is something.
Anyone else have experience interviewing with SIG and/or their ops department?
and info would prove very helpful

I was an AT at SIG for a year. After that year, I wasn't invited to trade for them (our desk got crushed and was looking to scale down), but they liked me and offered me an ops position, which I didn't take. I can tell you that the firm is great, the ops people are pretty smart. Culture is the same as the rest of the firm. You get to be involved on how trades affect settlements, p/l, etc. Ops people sat on the trading floor near the traders. I'm not comfortable posting the comp they offered me, but it was significantly less than what they pay traders and assistant traders.
They're a good firm. If you want to work in ops, look into it.
I am interviewing for the Research Analyst position for equity options, Do you know what the typical compensation was like? Base and bonus, if you know. I have sellside and buyside experience.

Do you know if ops ppl can transition into an assitant trader/trader role further down the line?? Have you seen it happen with the ppl you were working with?? actually trying to leverage the ops position into a trading role further down the line after 1 or 2 yrs in ops

Seems like the avg for a RA is around 80K ish according to glassdoor. Not sure how reliable the numbers are. See for yourself at glassdoor.com and gluck with the interview.
bean, at other firms, transitioning from ops to a trader role is possible. At SIG, it's highly unlikely. If you want to trade for them, why don't you apply for an AT role? More specifically, what do you expect to gain from ops that would make you a better trader?

Don't really expect to gain anything new... maybe get an "inside track" into internal hirings maybe or networking with the traders: "lets give this kid a shot" type of deal
Currently working in ops right now so I guess its my way in... would prefer to break in as a assistant trader right off the bat but no trading exp, no designation (7/63 etc)
so my plan is ops->asst ->trader???
quick question, would it be a automatic ding if the hr asked me why sig and long term goals etc and I say something like "want to get into trading by starting in ops and moving up"
would they think "ok this kid is not interested in the position he applied for but rather using it as leverage for a asst trader position later on so we rather hire a guy that wants to work and move up in the ops dept????
