Take IB offer or recruit for consulting?

I'm a rising junior with an offer from an internship offer from a MM IB firm. My first choice is consulting, but I'm also interested in IB. If I take the other, I won't be able to recruit for consulting. I would take a MBB or Tier 2 consulting firm internship over this, but knowing that there are much fewer consulting internships than IB (esp with the current situation), I don't think I have a good shot. Should I play it safe and take the offer? How difficult would it be for me to recruit for consulting full time after a IB internship? (go to semi target)

I’d say depends on a few things-

how good is the MMIB offer? MMIB is a big range, and there’s a huge difference between Blair/HL/etc and Cantor/Oppenheimer/etc. Recruiting FT for consulting after a Blair/HL internship would likely be challenging but doable, whereas going from a smaller MMIB shop to consulting will be nearly impossible.

also, you mention you’re a semi target, but again that’s a pretty vague term. does your school send a sizable amount of kids to MBB/T2 consulting? Are your stats/resume competitive? if you’re at a school that sends 10 kids a year to MBB and 20 to T2 and you have a 4.0 GPA, I’d say roll the dice on recruiting. If your school sends 1-2 a year and you have a 3.0, take the IB offer.
