The biggest mistake I see prospective SAs make

If you network with me and the call goes well and I tell you I’m willing to vouch for you, do NOT make the fatal mistake of not following up. Not following up with me after I tell you I like you and will help you out/give you some important contacts is basically identical to telling me you’re not taking your recruitment process with my bank/team seriously at all. It doesn’t make sense to be afraid to text/email me on a weekly basis asking for the help I had promised in that first call...I’m a banker and I’m likely busy. You need this more than I do so act like it. If you expect me to move mountains for you immediately after a single call, you likely have no idea how IB recruiting really works.

Please, please, please always follow up, *especially* if that initial networking call went well and the banker likes you. Otherwise you are erasing your chances with that firm.

This is good advice. Since we're on the topic, would you have any other bones to throw to prospective monkeys?

"Markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent."

One quick note: Are you referring to when you tell candidates directly that you’ll vouch for them, or rather did you just say “feel free to reach out if you need anything”, etc.

I agree with OP that following up is a good idea, but don't be a bother. A follow up thank you, a check in when the application goes in, pre first round, and pre/post super day should be on the high side of communications in my opinion (unless you clearly created a very strong/social relationship).
