Time Before You Received Your 1st Job Opportunity Entering Your Industry
Just wondering how long it took before everyone was given a job opportunity when they first started applying for jobs in their chosen field.
How many applications did you send in and how many rejections did you get?
What did you do to not get discouraged?
I have already received a couple of "no thank you" letters within the past week, and it is a bit discouraging.
During my senior year of undergrad, I started applying to jobs in August. By October I had already applied to probably 200+ jobs ranging from IB to S&T to Consulting, to FP&A, to Valuations. I applied to all the big banks and a ton of small boutiques. I got rejected by 199 of those firms and had one interview in November for a business development role, but they ultimately decided to hire a girl from Cornell.
I got a Credit Analyst internship that I did part-time in between classes during my final semester which helped my resume. I then forced a pledge in my fraternity to let me meet his dad who is the CEO of the firm I'm, at now. Starting interning for his dad's firm in March. Accepted a full time offer in May a week before I graduated.
