Unethical behaviour of big firms
Hi guys,
I would like to share an incident that I’m going through. To give my background, I’m a masters in finance student who is done with studies, now need 4 months of experience (either by internship or a job) to graduate. So basically, I was doing a 6 months internship starting from July, then after 2 weeks of it, I got a call from HR of another company to ask if I’m interested in interviewing for a job of derivatives analyst position in their company to which I said yes. After 2 weeks of interviewing process, they made an offer. As I was on OPT status in USA, I made my status and requirement of visa sponsorship after 1 year, clear from the beginning, during the screening interview. Even before accepting the offer, I asked them to adjust my starting date in order to maintain my status to which they agreed. After that, I signed the offer, background check and every formality was done. Then, I resigned from my internship in Europe and moved to US. The next day I moved and two days before the starting date, they sent me an email, revoking the offer because of their inability to provide sponsorship in future. I tried to contact them over call and email, but they ghosted me. HR just blocked me and hiring manager never picked up my call.
Now, as my 90 day period of OPT expired, I had to leave US immediately. Now I have lost my previous internship and I’m unemployed again because of them. It have also costed me a lot financially with all the immediate moving.
I’d like to know if such a behaviour from a big firm is ethical or legal? It’s not professional for sure. And, what can I do in such a case? Please advise me what to do as I have nothing right now.
PS- if someone is hiring or know of any opportunity in finance, please help me out.
Thanks,
Swatantra
