Up to what level of math should I take?
Hi. I’m an Incoming freshman at a target school that is interested in IB and wondering up to what level of math I should take. I have already placed out of calc 1 and calc 2 so I technically don’t have to take any math classes but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea. I also plan on taking some statistics classes throughout my time here. I’m gonna be majoring in either econ/statistics/business, or some combination of those. Thanks and any help is appreciated.
I would brush up on some Algebra 2
Well there's not much math in investment banking.
Just basics plus some algebra. And Excel does that for you. However if you want more technical roles math becomes more important. I don't think you need more than calc and stats.
Complex Analysis for sure

best math class I ever took
.
The more math you take the more logical you become if say if you can handle pure math degree go for it
Terrible advice. Knew a lot of math majors and that's a great way to tank your gpa for no tangible benefits. If you want to learn logic, take an intro philosophy class or minor in philosophy 1000x easier than going for a pure math major.
If you're actually serious about math then do a major in applied mathematics
Understating basic algebra is all you really need. Calculus helps build logical thinking and analytical skills. Most complicated math I've done so far is calculating weighted average. Think econ would be a good choice.
Go for the highest level you can achieve whilst retaining a high GPA. I made that mistake and still beat myself for it
If you're interested in IB/PE/VC, higher level math is not worth it at all. You use a grand total of 0 calculus in those roles.
I'm a econ/CS major and was doing a math minor, but the additional work required to get through that material wasn't worth it at all while I was busy with other classes, IB recruiting, and clubs. Math classes pretty much single-handedly killed my 4.0 and it's been a bitch to get it back to 3.9 ever since. If you want to get into quant roles, do CS, which is marginally easier in my experience. I'd much rather work on a programming problem until 3am than grind out a boring ass linear algebra problem set again
