US visa sponsorship for international students

Hi everyone! I have been wanting to ask for a long time what the chances of someone not holding US citizenship are of recruiting for a junior year summer internship and then FT for consulting in New York. For reference: I am a sophomore at a T20, 4.0 GPA, doing a gap semester to pursue an internship at a Tier 2 consulting company, but back in my home country. Also have a second internship lined up for the summer with them, so a total of 6 months. Friends in the industry have told me that chances of recruiting FT or even for a summer internship are marginal if not nonexistent, since companies don‘t want to sponsor visa when they can just take a candidate who holds citizenship. What are realistic chances of recruiting for MBB or T2 (actually wouldn’t mind staying with the current company but work in their NYC office)?
