Weird Ass Situation

How do I tell my parents I dont wanna study premed and wanna recruit for IB. Side note: They are indian parents that will belittle me and gaslight me if I say I want to quit pre med. Worst of all, they will threaten to not pay my tuition.

Oh, that's a tricky one, my friend! It sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle. But remember, it's your life and your career. You need to do what makes you happy and fulfilled.

Now, onto the practical side of things. It's important to approach this conversation with your parents in a thoughtful and respectful manner. Explain to them why you're interested in Investment Banking and how you believe it will benefit your future.

You might want to highlight the potential for career growth, the skills you'll acquire, and the doors it can open for you down the line. Also, reassure them that you've done your homework about the industry and you're not making this decision lightly.

If they're worried about the tuition, you could discuss options like scholarships, part-time jobs, or internships that could help offset the costs.

Remember, they might not understand your decision at first, but with time and patience, they might come around. After all, they want what's best for you.

And hey, if you need to pick up a minor or 2nd major to appease them, that wouldn't be the worst idea. You might learn something in the process, plus hot girls study the humanities/liberal arts so its a win all around.

Good luck! You've got this.

Show your parents how IB provides similar compensation as medicine without the 4 additional years of schooling, 2+ years of residency, and $200k+ debt.

Can’t really blame them tbh.

Try showing them IB pay and trajectory vs. cost of the medical path (schooling and opportunity cost). At the end you the day, do what you want even if you can’t reason with them. Had a similar situation. Your parents will not disown you and any tension that arises will eventually go away. Talking from experience here.

I don’t know if they’ll actually pull tuition but it’s probably an empty threat. If you are concerned about that, just don’t tell them when you inevitably switch majors. Worst case is they eventually find out and then you’ll have to deal with the situation then. Just be ready to take out loans for your junior or senior years and work if you have to. You could BS them until you intern. Another thing to note is that paid finance internships actually pay well, particularly IB, and you can meaningfully contribute to your tuition and living expenses.
