What do you do if you don't make it?
I've been interning the recently and realized it less common than I thought to make associate, VP, MD, and then hopefully partner. I was curious what people tend to do if they don't make it to the next level, particularly for younger guys. Assuming you aren't able to get a job at a similar firm or transition to PE/HF, do you just have to leave the industry. Find something totally different?
For those people who haven't go the promotion and have gotten "pushed-out" what did you end up doing?
Well people go to B-school to reset their career. From there, you can try to go back to the same industry or go down a new path.
What about after B-school. You're then possibly in debt and might get another job for 3 years just to not make it to the next level? I don't want to sound paranoid, I'm just genuinely curious
Well you seem to suggest that there is some clear track that everyone needs to follow if they don’t get a promotion, but that’s just not the case.
I said B-school as a potential option, but it’s just one of many.
I suggest going on LinkedIn and using the past company filter to see where people are at today if you’re curious.
