I have a good career in risk technology in NYC, and I like what I do. I have an MBA. I recently completed the CFA® program.
Of course I want to advance my career and earn more and all that, but I like what I'm doing and I'm not looking to make a move. I don't anticipate ever making a big change to the general direction of my career. I feel reasonably challenged in my day to day job, but also I have more than what's required in terms of education to do my job.
I have some free time, and don't have a sense of a goal or progress towards something outside of work. I could "network" or just spend more time at work, but that doesn't really satisfy me. I like to study, like taking classes.
I'm trying to think of ideas of what else I can study in my spare time. I know I could do the FRM, but having just completed the CFA®
it seems a bit silly to start that right now. I've always wanted to do a Ph.d., but can't imagine taking time off from work right now or commuting to anywhere that has part time programs. I've been working in technology longer than finance; periodically learning one more random programming language or technology wouldn't be enough -- I have to do that anyways.
What else is there? Anything that would be at least a little bit useful to my career, or somehow even slightly increase my value to employers? Anything that could hypothetically be practical to learn if I were going to change direction, even though I don't actually plan to? Ideally something broader and more cohesive than just taking some random night class -- I like having longer-term educational goals like when I did the MBA or CFA® programs.
