What work can I do in Indonesia?

By the end of this year, more likely in October, we will be in Indonesia. My husband has a job offer in Jakarta and his offer comes with bringing his family there to live with him. Of course, that would be the best for everyone but the problem is that would mean i had to stop working. It is actually fine with me but I do not want to be a plain housewife, I want to continue working there.

I am a nurse, based on what I heard, nurses are not so in demand in the country. I am willing to do just anything possible. What work can I do there?

Where in JKT? Minimum local wage last time I was in Indo was around $100 (depends on province), JKT generally a little higher - what skills do you have above and beyond any local (who have preference of employment) which will leverage you a higher wage than this. Degree? Managerial Skills? Or.... language. Foreign language puts you in a good position for and secretary/communication type job (esp. if you speak Bahasa Indonesia). Or, given that you might not even earn a good wage you could do something more pro bono - take a trip to the slums, those guys could use basic nursing on a charitable basis, or someone to teach computer skills/ english etc. Indonesia has a population of 250 million people, with basic skills and language competencies who have priority of work over foreigners. If you do not have any significantly differentiated skills from the basic work force then you have a problem with 1) A (paid) work Visa 2) actually finding a job. So, option 1) play to your strengths - jobs which require foreign languages, healthcare experience or both (private healthcare providers for ex-pats) or 2) don't try to compete in the job market and help people for free to spend your time usefully.

I don't suppose you have any trips to Indonesia every now and then? If so, make researches instead - go to user groups and the like networks as much as you can. You will learn more before moving and living there for good.

Public health consulting or public health awareness rep type work.

Something less hands on medical and more awareness/preventative based. Maybe use your nurse qualifications to better sell yourself as a mammy for a rich family out there lulz

Job hunting is all depends you resume and skills on the seeking part, since you have a degree it will be easier. Good luck on your new phase in life.

I feel compelled to be a smart ass.

In all seriousness, I would be surprised if you couldn't land a nursing gig.

Lots of Filipino nurses in Indonesia, so you'll be competing with them in terms of wages. If you don't mind taking a nursing job with a much lower salary, then a nursing gig would probably still be best
