Which 2017 Summer Analyst Internships are less competitive?

I'm a Junior at a target undergraduate feeder school with a garbage GPA majoring in Finance and Government seeking a summer internship in IBD, ER, AM, or Consulting. I come from an extremely fortunate family and am not concerned with salary competitiveness either this summer or post-graduation. Since my past internship was political in nature, I'm mainly just seeking financial industry experience and resume building. I'm not desperate for securing a post-grad offer or anything

My University has heavy OCI recruitment from all the Bulge Bracket banks, but usually the process is highly competitive and has GPA requirements. I've so far received a notification of being second rounded for a summer M&A internship. I haven't heard anything back from the other half dozen or so Summer Analyst positions that I applied for back in December.

Are any of you familiar with the time frames regarding recruiting for 2017 Summer? Also do any of you have recommendations from experience about what would be a worthwhile non-IB avenue to pursue for my purposes. I'm open to relocation and interested in some of the less desirable locations such as Houston, etc. I happen to be conservative, hence my intrigue.

If you're considering non-IBD, then look for ER and AM. MBB consulting is just as difficult as BB/EB IBD.

ER and AM are a tad bit easier (especially if you're looking at non-NYC). non-MBB options are worth exploring too, Accenture recruits in the spring for instance.
