Which career path to choose?
Hello - I one day would like to go into a bank/HF/investment related company as a macro researcher. I have a bsc/masters in economics and plan to start my PHD next year. I will have ~5 years experience as an economist by the time I finish my PHD.
My ideal job is a macro researcher, ideally commodities but any relevant sector interests me. The problem is, it seems like there is very limited macro researcher jobs compared to say an equity analyst, while the pay is quite similar. In addition, half the macro research jobs are quant, which I worry will be disgustingly hard to interview for and even more unlikely to be able to get the job.
Is there any guidance of how to get my foot into a macro role within a HF or anything of the sort? Is it silly to aim for a role that seems relatively niche and not as in demand as other similar roles? The pay seems similar to other similar roles, if it’s quant macro researcher it can be very good
whats the best website to look for roles? I’ve only had a look on indeed so far, and there’s quite a few, but most are quant/equity researcher and not macro. I’m now waffling so I’ll wrap it up, Is a macro researcher a reasonable goal? Do all banks/and most investment firms employ this kinda role?
