You think an hf analyst is more prestigious than a Wachtell lawyer

Former lawyer here. If it is a halfway decent fund, yes.

Don’t do law; it’s super boring. Even the lawyers will tell you they hate it but are locked into the career path.

I don't care if it's boring I like reading, I just want to get the most smiled upon job

It is worse than reading. It is being a Word monkey with redlining and compare docs. Nothing you do that is transactional (Wachtell) is much above being a glorified paralegal, this ain’t no litigation folks.

you will be smiled upon as you paper over deals for bankers and funds making more than you and providing a better life for their children with more time off as you struggle to meet your billables in a contracting market. Artists and doctors get the smiles you are after.

They will say they hate it sober or after a drink or two, totally dissemble. If they don’t they are sociopathic or have a disorder. They are almost all locked into this path. Exit ops horrible.

At Wachtell, you will largely do the same work as the other big firms. Anything novel will be handled by senior partners. Wachtell May be the most prestigious transactional law role, but the most prestigious legal positions out of law school are boutique litigation firms and appellate clerkships that feed into SC clerkships. None of these are nearly as lucrative as the other two paths you mentioned, and none of these are as interesting day to day (most SC cases are drier than being a 22 year old excel monkey).

Wachtell for sure. Altho i would find finance way more interesting than law

Not true. Junior to mid level financiers call senior Wachtell lawyers Sunday afternoon and make them return to the office to paper over a firedrill. The power dynamic between financiers and lawyers does not change at any level, and hours at a firm like Wachtell do not measurably improve over a legal career.  Ultimately, no matter how good you are, you are “just” a lawyer and not a doctor or financier.

Note to the kid: why are you interested in going into "the most prestigious career?" You certainly don't have to do this anytime soon, but you should ultimately be focused on what area/type of work you're most interested in/passionate about.
