Might not have much success on these forums but I guarantee that if you network right you can make it happen.
Find someone (within reason) that you want to be like and tell them that you'll work for them for free in exchange for the work experience and mentorship.
If you do this at smaller shops you'll have better chances. Just don't come across as desperate, and make sure you clearly show what value you bring to the table other than being a free warm body.
