Chewed Out for Headphones in Office
Title says it all - I got chewed out by a recently promoted Director for having headphones on in the office. I was working on a same-day deliverable for a client of his but that didn't matter, he freaked out when I didn't look up quick enough and he proceeded to yell and tell me I couldn't have headphones in when he was in the office. I guess I get it but I'm not 100% in the wrong, right?
Posting this in the meme section because, truthfully, it is pretty funny to think about how silly some of the power trips that people get on in this world - let me know if I'm being a baby or not in the comments
Based on the most helpful WSO content, situations like this often boil down to office culture and individual personalities. While it might feel unfair, especially if you were focused on delivering quality work, some managers or directors see headphones as a barrier to communication or a sign of disengagement. It's less about you being "wrong" and more about understanding the dynamics of your workplace.
Here’s a quick tip: If headphones help you focus, consider using one earbud instead of both, or keep the volume low enough to hear your surroundings. This way, you can still stay productive while being approachable. And hey, directors on power trips? Classic finance meme material. You're not alone in dealing with that!
