Analyst told me gridlines are back

Went over to an analyst desk and saw he had gridlines on so I, being the culture setting associate I am, condescendingly mocked him to which he replied “gridlines are back old man I bet you still do the griddy”. He then proceeded to call me Bill Hwang (I still don’t understand why) and had me hold his phone while he filmed a day in the life of an investment banker TikTok. Are gridlines actually back?

please tell me you at least milly rocked on em to preserve some dignity

Milly rocking would do the opposite. It’s too old now. If you’re goin to dance you should get sturdy.

Lmao I can’t even imagine having gridlines off in 2023. What you’re just gonna randomly dick around in an excel sheet that looks like a god damn 8.5”x11” without neat, perfectly placed horizontal and vertical lines that guide the eyes and yes, even the soul, to the breaking points between cells, each of them interlinked to create a beautiful whole? You might as well hand draw your model on the fucking print shop paper.

Could not be me.

Bro when I walk into my Partner's office and he's got some PPT that the seller sent us open with the gridlines on, I feel like a parent whose just walked into a room where their child is eating glue and playing in mud. It's like ohhhh no no no no no, someone needs to get you out of this filth and clean you up lil man gridlines haven't been acceptable since the first monkeys began using electronics instead of graph paper to pitch deck

Why would gridlines ever be off?  Nobody ever sees the excel anyway.  Personally I even have formatting mark-up enabled in PPT and Word.  My role is odd, but when I'm playing in them, I'm sell-side, so it matters to get the formatting right.  PDF for deliverables FTW

Have you been using excel so zoomed in that you don't need the grid?  Actually go and process datasets, loser.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Gridlines are wack. A custom set of guides aligned to the right template is how you make the big bucks. Say no to universal gridlines, yes to guides.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.
