This commercial is way more annoying, nevermind super-racist.

I also hate when people insert unnecessary sounds - like "dzo , dza, dzippity"

More is good, all is better

Argonaut, that commercial is straight up retarded. What are we supposed to take away from watching it? It just leaves me feeling confused and under the belief that anyone with a Kia is a dumbass.

Not sure that it's racist, but on some level, it gives me a racist vibe for whatever reason. Maybe it's my white guilt.

It is TOTALLY racist. Hamsterdam avenue? It's one-way northbound to Harlem. Kia Soul

I never thought about the Kia commercial that way...but Argonaut may have a point, a stretch but a point. From my year in the city Harlem was becoming populated by the safe Columbia-eque hipsters its not just a minority neighborhood anymore.

Regardless I hate the Hyundai commercial. it's just really annoying and corny (makes me think of crunchy granola wanna be hippies). Whoever approved the commercial should be fired. I'd rather watch softball - but only for a few innings.

More importantly how bout that Tar Heel W tonight in our BS bowl.

GoodBreadArgonaut, that's The Choice Is Yours by Black Sheep. What in the world is wrong with you?

meaning?

That's just a garbage commercial to begin with, I always got irritated whenever I saw it (especially since it's on Hulu constantly).

I love how much effort they put into marketing such bullsh!t products anyway.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

I think he likes that song haha

"You stop being an asshole when it sucks to be you." -IlliniProgrammer "Your grammar made me wish I'd been aborted." -happypantsmcgee

Buyside CFARacist against hamsters?

The kia commercial is a parody of early 90’s rap videos. I get your point with the stereotypes. However, EVERY rap video looked exactly like that commercial for awhile.

Racist against certain clearly referenced demographic that is being portrayed as glassy-eyed hamsters.
And I'm sorry, but " Kia Soul is a better vehicle than a washing machine/toaster/cardboard box" isn't exactly a strong selling point.

The song's chorus goes "you can get with this, or you can get with that," which is why it was picked for the commercial. Harlem was probably picked because hamsters go better with Harlem than Queens, which is where the original artists are from. The do, da, dippity is part of the song and you be hard-pressed to find any early 90s hip-hop without stuff like it (Tribes, Naughty by Nature..)

That wasn't the only Kia commercial featuring hamsters btw: http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/media/hamsters-that-sell-kia-soul-com…

And here's the original song for your viewing and listening pleasure:

There :) Fixed it for ya :)

So there's a commercial featuring hamsters in button-ups and khakis mingling at a country club, throwing back a couple of beers on a yacht, golfing, or engaging in some other stereotypical activities? Because that would imply that the hamsters represent people in general, and not any specific target audience...
