Anyone Tried Therapy?

Been having a really difficult time finding any work life balance and it's taking a toll on my mental health and relationship. I can't seem to ever pull out of "work mode" and have constant anxiety / guilt when I'm not working. Given it’s easier with remote options, I’m thinking about therapy a shot and wanted to see if anyone else has had success with it

TIA

I’ve tried therapy like 3x and the hardest part is developing a rapport with the therapist. There are definitely some things I could work on in my life but I don’t have much trauma to talk about. My biggest problem in life is probably that im Boring / don’t do much outside of work and dating so I honestly feel like I’m boring my therapist.

Anyone deal with this?

Hey I hope you feel better soon. Echoing other comments above that yes therapy can be good. It’s like seeing a doctor to help with emotions / feelings. If, Gd forbid, someone broke a leg or something like that I’m not sure it would be that uncomfortable for that person to seek a doctor / professional who specializes in healing/improving bones and the like. Emotions are important too and thankfully there are people who have studied and continue to study emotional / mental health and appreciate the opportunity to try to help others who may appreciate the help. Either way, good luck again and best wishes :)

Yes, but I think the main determinants will be 1) credentials of your counselor 2) his/her experience and 3) rapport. When I was looking for help I was phoning around multiple therapists on the basis of no. 1 and 2. (Male Phd to MD, at least 10 years of experience). What ultimately made me go with my current therapist was he actually sounded like he gave a fuck over the phone at a point in my life where it felt like I was going mad and I was so scared because I had zero clue what was “wrong” with me. Believe it or not, so many other “therapists” sounded so transactional, it was discouraging at first. As somebody who is cynical of almost everything on this planet, I can tell you therapy works. You will have to understand that it’s a process, and you HAVE TO drop your pride and abandon all prior assumptions about therapy. You won’t get any benefit if you’re not willing to be taught. Some of the stuff I thought was hunky dory BS has actually worked wonders (CBT, breathing, mindfulness etc). My therapist is extremely good at what he does and he’s turned into more of a life coach in many areas of my life. Give it a go. Never put your mental health on the back burner.

I’ve tried therapy multiple times throughout my life at various ages. I’m 25 now and back at it (was recently diagnosed with autism on top of major depressive disorder).

It really is worth it, especially since you likely have insurance that can cover it. If you sprained your ankle, you wouldn’t likely “Man up and walk it off” with some Advil. That’s a way to worsen your condition. Likewise, if you “sprain your brain” it’s not something to tough out. Seek the professional help that’s needed, we all need help at some point in our life.

Shoot me a PM if you ever need help with how to start the process. Happy to help.
