Apple is trying to scan the hashes of the photos on the phone and comparing those hashes to a database of hashes known to be CP so no one at Apple will be seeing the local photos on your phone (your dick pics won’t be mistaken for a child’s). Also they already do this with all of the cloud saved photos and this is bringing it local.
That being said, I still think it’s a dangerous path to go down and the same methodology to find CP can be used by bad actors, governments, etc. down the road.
