Are you renewing your NYC apartment lease?

Are you guys planning on renewing your NYC apartment leases?

My lease is up for renewal in 2 weeks, and not sure if I should just fly to NY and move out if we’re going to be WFH until January. Don’t want to spend 20K on rent needlessly. Know many of our leases are up in the summer.

I was talking to my roommate about this yesterday. My lease isn't up until September, but if it was up in June, I wouldn't sign for a new place. If it was me, I'd take everything I want to keep (art/work clothes/etc) that I can't bring with me and give them to a friend to store in their apartment. Everything portable (laptop/books/etc) I would take with me on a flight down to a friends place in a cheaper COL city. Would likely rent a place on air bnb in a city there for a month or two. Everything else (mattress/couch/chairs), I'd throw out or leave in the apartment and tell the owner to deal with it. I assume they'd sell it, keep it, or throw it out.
